The Tohono O’odham Nation is a 2.8 million acre territory in Southwest Arizona that shares 75 miles of international border with Mexico. Traditionally, the land of the O’odham spanned south to north from Hermosillo, Mexico, to the Phoenix, Arizona, area. The border divides half of their traditional land, separating villages in Mexico and the United States. The Desert People have always been there; before, there was a Mexico and a United States.
In July 2017, three Mexican runners joined the O’odham tribe for a run through the Arizona desert and along the border as a symbol of unity and respect across the world.
