Land Acknowledgement

We respectfully acknowledge that we are on the ancestral lands of the Indigenous peoples of Costa Rica, including the Huetar, Maleku, Bribri, Cabécar, Ngäbe, Teribe, and Boruca nations. In the central valley, where San José is located, we recognize the Huetar people, whose knowledge, language, and traditions continue to shape this region. In Monteverde and the surrounding cloud forest, we honor the stewardship of Indigenous peoples who have long nurtured these ecosystems and continue to protect their lands, waters, and cultures.

We recognize the resilience of Costa Rica’s Indigenous communities in the face of colonization, displacement, and ongoing struggles for rights and sovereignty. We commit to honoring their presence, listening to their voices, and supporting their efforts to preserve their lands, languages, and traditions for future generations.
