Welcome to Copenhagen: a city defined by design, movement, and a deep relationship with water and culture.
In September 2026, Copenhagen becomes the epicenter of the running world as it hosts the World Championships Half Marathon. We’ll gather in this moment to experience the city through running; not as spectators, but as participants fully immersed in its rhythm.
This is a 4-day running experience built around race weekend, layered with thoughtfully curated moments that explore Copenhagen beyond the course. From morning runs through historic streets and waterfront paths, to shared meals, conversations, and cultural exploration, the experience is designed to slow things down while the world speeds up.
Co-hosted with Mumen Al-sada, run crew member from NBRO, this journey is rooted in local knowledge, community energy, and a shared belief that running is a gateway to connection with place, with people, and with yourself.
Every experience carries the essence of Aire Libre:
• Running • Community • Mindfulness • Nature • Culture • Gastronomy• History
Welcome to Copenhagen, a city shaped by design, water, and movement. Arrive at your own pace and settle into your hotel in the early afternoon. Once checked in, take some time to decompress after your journey: stroll through the neighborhood, grab a coffee, or simply let the rhythm of the city gently pull you in.
In the early evening, we’ll come together for a Social Run with NBRO (approximately 5 miles at an easy, conversational pace). This run is our first introduction to Copenhagen through movement, weaving through local streets and paths alongside members of the city’s most iconic running community.
After the run, we’ll gather for beers, burgers, and community at a local craft beer bar. This is where strangers start becoming familiar faces, conversations flow easily, and the tone for the weekend is set: relaxed, welcoming, and rooted in connection.

We begin the day by embracing a core part of Copenhagen culture: contrast and balance. In the morning, we head to the harbor for a private sauna and cold plunge session, offering a deeply Scandinavian approach to recovery and presence. Warm wood, cold water, and stillness by the sea set the tone.
Afterward, we refuel with coffee and pastries at one of the city’s most celebrated bakeries, a staple in the daily rhythm of locals.
From there, we explore Copenhagen by bike on a guided city tour, moving through historic landmarks, alternative communities, royal architecture, and civic spaces. Riding together allows us to experience the city as it is meant to be lived. Fluid, human-scaled, and effortlessly cool.
Lunch is enjoyed at Reffen Street Food, a vibrant waterfront market showcasing global flavors and local creativity. The afternoon is intentionally open. Nap, wander, shop, journal, or simply sit by the water.
In the evening, we regroup for a special Nordic dinner, carefully chosen to highlight local ingredients, thoughtful cooking, and the shared pleasure of slowing down around the table.

Saturday is all about easing into race weekend with intention. We start the day with the Legendary NBRO Shake-Out Run, a relaxed and joyful loop designed to wake up the legs, calm the mind, and soak in the collective energy of runners from around the world.
The run finishes with coffee and a classic Danish BMO (bun with cheese); simple, comforting, and surprisingly perfect pre-race fuel.
The rest of the day is yours to shape. Swim in the harbor, visit a museum, wander through design shops, or take a slow recovery walk through the city. Bib pick-up happens during the day (optional support provided), keeping logistics smooth and stress-free.
In the evening, we gather for a carb-load dinner at a great Italian restaurant, a relaxed, social moment to fuel up, share stories, and mentally prepare for race day.

Race day arrives early. We head to the start line in the morning, ready to take part in one of the world’s most electric half marathons. The course is flat and fast, fueled by unmatched crowd support.
After crossing the finish line, we reconvene at Queen Louise Bridge, where NBRO hosts a legendary street side celebration. DJs, beers, cheering, and music turn the bridge into a moving festival as we celebrate every finisher, from first to last.
In the afternoon, we keep things simple with burgers and beers, letting bodies recover and stories unfold naturally.
As night falls, we close the experience with The Legendary NBRO After Party. A proper send off filled with music, dancing, and the unmistakable feeling of having shared something special together.

The good news is that Copenhagen offers plenty of great options for all budgets, from boutique hotels and larger hotels to cozy Airbnbs and serviced apartments.
For the best experience, we strongly recommend staying in the Nørrebro neighborhood. Nørrebro is one of Copenhagen’s most vibrant and creative areas, known for its local cafés, bakeries, restaurants, and running culture.
All of our planned activities will begin and end in Nørrebro, so staying in this neighborhood will make logistics much easier and allow you to fully enjoy the social moments around the experience.
If you decide to stay elsewhere in the city, that’s totally fine; just keep in mind that you will be responsible for getting to Nørrebro for the start of each activity
Mid-September in Copenhagen offers ideal running weather with crisp, early autumn conditions. Daytime temperatures are typically 15°C–20°C (59°F–68°F), cooling to 10°C–13°C (50°F–55°F) in the evenings. Brief, light rain is possible, and gentle coastal breezes contribute to the fresh Nordic atmosphere, making it a highly pleasant and runner-friendly time to visit.
A valid passport is required for entry into Denmark.
Denmark is part of the Schengen Area. Travelers from many countries (including the U.S., Canada, Mexico, UK, and most of Europe) do not need a tourist visa for stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period.
Entry requirements may vary depending on your nationality, passport validity, and recent travel history. Please consult your local travel advisory or embassy to confirm requirements prior to departure.
All Aire Libre hosts and guides are fully aligned with our vision of exploring new perspectives and embracing a more sustainable way of life. They bring passion and expertise to every experience, inspiring meaningful connections with nature, community, and self.

Mumen is a Copenhagen-based runner who discovered his passion for running about 2.5 years ago after a background in football. Running quickly became a big part of his life. He enjoys the social side of running, exploring Copenhagen’s streets and joining community runs, but he is just as motivated by pushing his own limits and chasing faster times. He mainly runs his sessions with NBRO. When he is not running, Mumen loves traveling, experiencing new cultures, and meeting people from around the world.

We acknowledge that we gather on the ancestral lands of the Mexica, Otomí, Mazahua, Mixtec, Zapotec, and many other Indigenous peoples who have lived in and around this valley for millennia. Mexico City stands on the ancient lake beds of Anáhuac, once home to vibrant ecosystems and to Tenochtitlán, the capital of the Mexica world.
We honor the resilience of Indigenous peoples who continue to live, work, and create here, and whose cultures, languages, and traditions endure despite centuries of colonization. We recognize their ongoing struggles for justice and sovereignty, and commit ourselves to walking these lands with awareness, respect, and humility.
